Carmelita’s owner Clemente Heredia grew up in Sacramento California with a family filled with great cooks and restaurant operators. His restaurants are inspired by the many regions and ingredients of Mexico. The cuisine is based on genuine ingredients and a respect of flavors. Clemente works with executive chef Jose Colin to drive his culinary passion on those principles.
Sacramento is also the birthplace of Carmelita’s. the original Carmelita’s is named after his grandmother Carmen, who opened the original restaurant in 1962 with her husband Alberto Heredia. The restaurant quickly became a partner with the community supporting many events and inspiring many to better the community, including her youngest son Clemente Heredia senior who continued the family tradition with his wife Rosalba for more than twenty years.
